Plastic Machine Bolts with M2 to M24 Threads
Plastic machine bolts, mostly made of nylon, are a proven alternative to metal screws whenever low weight, corrosion resistance, and electrical insulation are required. They are used wherever precise, standardized screw connections are needed without accepting the disadvantages of metals. To ensure interchangeability and dimensional accuracy, plastic screws are based on common DIN or ISO standards such as DIN 933 / ISO 4017, DIN 912 / ISO 4762 or DIN 84 / ISO 1207, thus ensuring a precise and secure fit. Depending on the application, the machine bolts are manufactured, for example, from nylon (PA), polypropylene (PP), PE, POM, PEEK, PTFE, hard PVC, etc.
At Bülte, plastic machine bolts are available in common metric thread sizes from M2 to M24 with hex head, pan head, countersunk head or cheese head, covering a wide range of applications – from delicate precision components to robust technical constructions. Plastic screws provide a reliable and durable solution and are used, among others, in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, medical technology, as well as in the automotive and chemical industries.
Advantages of Plastic Screws
Plastic screws offer numerous technical advantages and represent a functional alternative to metal bolts in demanding applications. They are particularly used wherever metal fasteners cannot be employed due to material-related or design-related constraints. Plastic machine bolts offer the following advantages:
- Corrosion-free and rust-resistant
- Low weight
- Electrically insulating
- Resistant to chemicals and moisture (material-dependent)
- Non-magnetic
- Protect sensitive surfaces
Further information on the individual plastics can be found under 'Technical Data'.
Plastic Screws with Fine Thread
In applications where high precision, controlled preload and secure connections are important, fine thread plastic screws are the first choice. Thanks to their lower thread pitch, they offer precise adjustment options and better force distribution than standard threads. Plastic screws with fine threads also offer advantages in thin-walled components and small assemblies with limited space, as well as in screw connections that are exposed to high vibration loads. Typical areas of application are electrical engineering, electronics, precision engineering and lightweight construction.
The Bülte range of fine-thread plastic screws includes:
- Cheese head screws M6–M12 ~ DIN 84 / ISO 1207 with fine thread
- Pan head screws M6–M12 ~ DIN 85 / ISO 1580 with fine thread
- Hex head screws M6–M12 ~ DIN 933 / ISO 4017 with fine thread
We are happy to offer fine-thread screws made from other plastics or in other sizes on request.
Coloured Plastic Screws – Functional Labelling and Design
When labelling, safety or design play a role in addition to the pure fastening function, injection-moulded coloured plastic screws are often used. In this process, coloured granulate is specifically added to the natural-coloured, usually light milky white plastic granulate. The screws are usually uniformly coloured throughout and do not require any subsequent coating or painting. The colour remains permanent even under mechanical stress or slight damage – a clear advantage when it comes to the colour coding of screw connections that serve safety purposes and require regular maintenance or adjustment.
Coloured connecting elements, such as plastic screws in the signal colours red or yellow, are easy to identify. This makes them easier and quicker to locate during assembly and maintenance work and quality assurance, thereby helping to prevent errors. Typical areas of application for coloured screws are machines and systems, electrical or electronic components or assemblies, medical devices and housings.
If, on the other hand, the focus is on appearance, as in the case of furniture, playground equipment, housings, interior fittings, shopfitting or trade fair construction, the coloured plastic screws can be used as a visible design element to blend harmoniously or contrast richly with the product design, as desired.
Bülte also offers some plastic screws, such as hexagon screws, connecting screws (book screws) and knurled screws, in black as standard. Screws made of PTFE naturally have a white to milky-white colour. In addition, we also manufacture plastic screws in other colours on request and subject to minimum purchase quantities. Here you will find further information on fasteners in RAL colours.
Drive Options for Plastic Screws
The drive types for plastic screws are diverse and mirror the classic variations of metal screws. Among the most common drives found in the Bülte range are:
- Slotted: A simple drive where a slot is located in the screw head, operated with a flathead screwdriver.
- Phillips: This variant offers better guidance for the screwdriver and reduces the risk of slipping.
- Allen: Very precise and ideal for applications where space for the drive is limited.
- Torx: 6-lobe plastic screws with a star-shaped six-point drive enable optimal torque transfer and minimize wear.
- Pozidriv: This is an evolution of the cross slot drive, allowing for even greater torque transfer.
In the Bülte range, you will find not only protective caps for hex screws or decorative caps for Phillips screws, but also suitable cover caps for Pozidriv screws.

What do the designations S16, S17, S18, etc. mean for screws?
"S" refers to the width across flats of hexagon screws. S19 therefore means that the screw has a hexagon head that is tightened with a 19 mm wrench.
Where can plastic screws with fine thread be purchased?
One supplier of plastic screws with fine thread is Bülte. The range includes hexagon screws DIN 933 with fine thread as well as cylindrical screws DIN 84 and flat head screws DIN 85. Here you will find an overview of the standard available plastic screws with fine thread. Other sizes and screw types are available on request.
What distinguishes Bülte from a conventional screw wholesaler or fastener retailer?
Bülte is not a normal screw wholesaler or retailer. The company develops its own fasteners, including screws, nuts, washers, spacers and bushings. While traditional screw retailers mainly sell standard metal screws from various manufacturers, Bülte specialises in plastic fasteners and sees itself as a partner to industry. Plastic screws and related products are sold to industrial customers worldwide. In addition, customised screws and other fasteners are produced according to drawings. Bülte supports its customers from product selection and development to the production of tailor-made screws.
Other Fasteners from the Bülte Range
Bülte also offers matching nuts and washers in various designs, thread sizes and standards for the respective plastic screws, as well as other fasteners and technical plastic parts for a wide range of industrial applications.
